Samsung Run Dublin at night 10k on Sunday 29th. April

There is a 10k road race starting at 8.30pm at Trinity College on Sunday night next. We have been asked by the Athletics Association to provide people to look after the Baggage Area and give out medals and water at the finish. Helpers need to meet at the Front Gate of Trinity College at 6.30pm. We should be finished by 10.45 p.m. at the latest and have time for a quick coffee or a  drink (I am buying! )  before the last bus home. Dont bring cars in unless you know where you can park as there will be 5,000 runners in the race. Only adults or 4th and 5th years should come in.

Juvenile League Round 2

On Saturday in Tallaght we had a group of athletes in action at League 2. There were some very impressive performances and it was great to see the confidence gained from competing in League 1. Sophie English, Ella MaeCromie, Ellen Byrne, Conor Murphy and Pierre Murchan were particularly impressive in their events.

National Intervarsity Championships

Also at the weekend we had 3 athletes in action at the National Intervarsity Championships in Athlone. On Friday Sinead Cronin had a good season opener in the 1500m finishing 6th in 5.06. Catherine Mc Manus ran a new personal best in  a slightly wind assisted 100m hurdles finishing 2nd to Jesse Barr and she also finished 2nd in the 100m to Steffi Creaner.  Steffi came 2nd in the 200m.  Catherine was lead off in the 4×100 m relay and had built up a huge lead only for the 2nd and 3rd runners to drop the baton and unfortunately then were out of the race. See link here for videos of races

This week the older gang are busy with West Leinster Schools and Senior leagues  and the little people have a free weekend from competition.

Latest News

Yesterday in Santry Pierre Murchan finished 2nd in the Intermediate boys 1500m at the All Ireland CBS track & field championships in Santry.  Unfortunately the club only became aware late on Tuesday that St Declans had not arranged to enter or bring the boys out to Santry and it was too late  to organise anything at that stage. A missed opportunity for for a nice bit of competition for the lads.

This weekend League 2 will take place in Tallaght starting at 12 noon on Saturday. This will be a shorter programme that last week but be prepared  for the cold anyway. All the younger athletes need to do these events as they are low key and enjoyable for them. Its a chance to try different events. On Saturday Mary and Hilary wont be there due to prior committments. Fiona, Jane, Joe, and Anne who know the ropes will be there. We will gather at the same place as last week. Bring 3 euro for your sticker.

Don’t forget training on Monday for the smallies in Santry at 7pm.

What a day our young athletes had at the Spar Great Ireland Run today in the Phoenix Park. Our star boy of the day was Pierre Murchan who had a great win in the Boys Junior Great Run. Our star girl performer was Keelin Gogarty who finished 2nd in the Mini Great Run. We had a huge gang running in both races and they all had a great day. Thank You
A big thank you to all the parents and teenagers who worked so hard at the Baggage Area, Water Station, Goody bags and Finish Water areas and helped with the major clean -up after the race was over. Thanks also to the stewards who worked around the course and helped so much with the clean up. All your help is really appreciate. It was hard work but it beats selling tickets, packing bags or pub quizzes!  Anything we raise at this event is put back into our young athletes and as you can all see we have some very talented young people  who will need our support in the future.
