News and Details for week beginng Sat 28th July

Morton Games
At the Morton Games in Santry Catherine McManus had a great start in the womens 100m but unfortunately her hamstring injury recurred and she had to pull up. This was a hugh disapointment for Catherine as she had absolutely no warning in advance. Such a shame for our two star sprinters Steffi and Catherine to be forced to end their seasons like this but they will no doubt be back in full training as soon as they can. Otherwise the meeting in Santry was amazing, the races were so exciting, weather was perfect and a very and a big supportive turnout of spectators. All our gang who were there really enjoyed the night.

Big Kids Races
Meanwhile the big kids leagues contiued last week with 800m races in Santry. Danny ran a personal best in his race, Cliona Murphy improved on her time from the previous weekend by 4 seconds, Sinead and Clare wernt too happy with their races. In Santry on Sunday in very breezy conditions Sinead and Danny ran in the 1500m and 800m respectively, Catherine McManus won her 100m in fine style and hoped that would signal her recovery from her hamstring troubles but the Morton meet put an end to that.

Final Track Competitions 2012
This weekend Alison Armstrong, Clare Brennan and Cliona Murphy compete in the National under 16 and 17 1500m in Tullamore. Next Wednesday night Danny, Sinead and Olwyn will compete in the final big kids league race in Irishtown. For training details for this week see under training details at top of Home page.

On day 2 of the Nationals we had Cliona Murphy in action in the under 17 girls 800m. She finished a fine 5th in the race in a time of 2.34 beating the winner of the Dublins on the way! Well done Cliona.

National Juveniles Day 1 Sat 14th July

We had athletes involved in four events at Day 1 of the Nationals. First into action was Sarah Curran in the under 17 girls hurdles which was a straight final and Sarah surprised all of us and especially herself by finishing a fine 3rd winning her first medal at National on the track. Next we had Siobhan McGinley in the 3k steeplechase and despite not having done any hurdling this year Siobhan battled through and won her third National steeplechase gold in a row in a new championship best time. Alison Burke was next to race and she qualified well for her 80m final coming 2nd in her heat. In the final she was up against much stronger, bigger girls and finished in sixth place. Sarah Curran competed in the heats of the 100m under 17 and didnt make the final.
