Naional Indoor Day 1 & 2

There were 2 hectic days of competition in Athlone on Saturday and Sunday last. The standard of competition was very high and medals and indeed places in finals very hard to get. Club highlight of the weekend was the thrilling under 19 boys 1500m where Pierre was narrowly beaten into 2nd place. He had taken on the lead after a slowish first lap and hammered out a relentless pace for the next few laps which burned off all but 3 of the field. Going into the last lap he was passed by Jack O Leary but he fought back on the home straight and just ran out of track. Great race, great time and very well done!   Daire Finn had heats for his 1500m and ran very well in his final finishing 5th. Chloe Corcoran ran a great heat of her 60m but didnt get out as well at the start in her final and finished 5th. In the pole vault Muireann Mc Ginley added 10cm to her previous best and a gold medal in the under 18 event and Jamie Kennedy equalled his best getting bronze in the under 17 boys pole vault. The under 12 relay team ran very well on Saturday just missing out by one place on a spot in the final. Next year girls!   Alison Burke finished 5th in a pb in the under 16 long jump. Others who competed at the weekend were Abbey Corr and Sarah Jane Brennan in the walks, Alison Armstrong, Aoife Corr and Ellen Byrne (1500m), Emily Corcoran ( high jump), Alex Corr (long Jump and 600M). Well done to all! It is an honour to compete in your National championship for yourself and your club!
