We had four athletes competing this weekend in Tullamore. First off on Saturday was Finn Burkepower in the under 18 boys 400m. Finn ran a really good heat and qualified well for his final. The race was won in a time under 50 seconds and Finn ran a solid race finishing 4th just outside his best time. Great running in a very competitive race. Alison Burke qualified for the final of the 100m and finished a good 5th in an event which wouldn’t be considered her best.
On Sunday Sean Donoghue ran in the under 15 boys 1500m where he finished 5th in his age group last year. A much stronger, more mature Sean was on the track this year and up until the last 100m was looking at 4th place but sheer guts and determination got him up to a fantastic 3rd in a pb of 4mins 25 an improvement of 14 secs on last year! Fabulous running😊!
Pressure was on for Alison Burke in her final of the 300m hurdles with the faster competitors on her inside but she held her form, hurdled brilliantly and fought all the way to the line for a well deserved silver medal.
Two medals up and Daire Finn lined up for his 1500m final with a tough earlier heat in his legs. In a very competitive race Daire followed his instructions to the letter and despite his legs hanging off over the last 100m managed a well deserved silver medal. Another great weekend for our young athletes.
