Inter Varsity Update 2017

Last weekend some of our older athletes were in action in Athlone at the National InterVarsity championships. Catherine Mc Manus had a busy day in her last indoor competition for DCU. She started off with a win in the 400m heat with a big PB of 55.57 followed by a win in her heat and final of the 60m hurdles. Later on she ran the fastest time in the final of the 400m to get top points for DCU. Clare Brennan was also racing for the last time for DCU in the 1500m and she ran very well with Cliona Murphy also competing strongly for Trinity college in the same race. Well done girls!

Leinster schools crosscountry update

The minor team from St Dominics College Cabra won the team event at the Leinster schools today. Great running from Celtic athletes Kate Harrold, Alex Corr, Kacey Tully and Keelin Gogarty helped secure the gold for St Dominics. Antonia and Aontoinette were on the Kings Hospital team. Clare Murphy and Sara Byrne ran really well finishing 8th and 18th in the junior girls race, Gillian Murphy and Cliodhna did their best but both have had recent layoffs which left them down the field today. Aoibh Collins was well up for her school Dominican Griffith Ave.
Sean Donoghue gave a master class in cross country running today, just let the lads know he was hovering behind them and then with half a lap to go hit the front and pulled away for a great win in the junior boys race.
Well done to all, next stop All Ireland schools in Mallusk on March 11th. Thanks for all the support today for our young athletes.

The third and final hectic day of comeptitions got underway at 10am with the 200m heats. Next up were all our little ones in th 500/600m races, some with track experience outdoor and some first timers. All enjoyed the experience with good runs in particular from Niamh Bergin, Niamh O Connor, Lia Butler Lynch and Finn mc Auley. Caolan Collins made the 600m under 13 final and finished 4th. Kacey had an extra lap added in error to her 800m heat and she made the final along with Clare O’C0nnor, Clare Murphy had a great race in the final of the under 15 girls 800m and got her first individual Dublin medal finishing 3rd,  Sara Byrne ran really well in her 800m final and finished 4th, Dora battled all the way over the last lap and also finished 4th in her 800m final with Emily Murphy not far behind. Daire Finn easily added 800m gold to his 1500m gold the day before. Our sole hurdler Alison Burke saved her best till last and she won the under 18 sprint hurdles in fine style.

Thank you to all the parents who supported over the weekend, definitely beats being up in Tallaght or Santry in the snow.
