DUBLIN ROAD NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS

No shopping at the Square, Tallaght for us today despite the festive season, we had the more serious business of competing in the Dublin Road Race Championships.

This was a beautiful day for racing and unusually not a puff of wind at the foot of the Dublin mountains. The championship was held in conjunction with the annual Tallaght 5Km therefore a field of some 500 runners toed the line. The course was essentially a circuit of the Greenhills Road/Tymon Park area meaning there was a good drag on the last kilometer.Ellen/Silje and Christelle (making her DCH debut) were prominent from early backed up with excellent packing by Aoife/Fiona and Abbey. Ellen having an inspired run worked hard all the way and was rewarded with first place and personal best leading our team home to victory. Christelle was first junior home and picked up a nice prize. There was an issue over some results (ineligible athletes) which was more or less resolved at the time of leaving but it meant were working off provisional team results initially. Full details will follow when final results are made available. We are in with a shout for a team prize in the open race category and this should be known later today.
In the meantime the first draft results are posted on the POP UP Races website here.

News update

We had a busy day in Trinity grounds for day 2 of the Dublins which also included the junior and senior races. First off were Aisling, Edward and Canice in the under 9 races, they all ran well and finished well up the field but outside the medals this time. Our under 11 girls were next off and they were real troopers , running 1500m for the first time. Amelia led them in finishing 7th, Juliette, Ellen and Saoirse all in the top 25 finished 4th team by just a few points. Hard luck girls! Next time!!
Eoin was our Lone ranger in the boys race and he had a solid run.
Our under 13 girls were in great form today finishing 3rd team with Jessica, Megan, Abigail, Ella and Pearl running their socks off over 2500m . Fabulous running girls!

Our junior women’s team finished 3rd team with Celine having a fine run in 2nd place overall. Clare was next in , and fair play to Sarah and Jana for staying the course to help the team to 3rd place.

The junior lads were next running over 6k which was very tough. However they got stuck in and a big shout out to Joe, Christopher, Rowan and especially Conor who is just back after a bad flu. The happiest boys at the races today!!

We kept the good wine till last today with our senior women winning the team event for the first time in 30 years. Huge well done to Lauren, Jodie, Edel, Cliona, Ellen, Aoife, Aislinn, Aoife and Sinead. So proud of you all. Thanks to Enda and Dermot for all their hard work and to all the supporters out there today.
