We had a big group in action in NIA on day 4 of the indoor championship. On Sat morning Alice long jumped her way to a gold medal in the long jump under 14 with a personal best of 4m54cm up from 3m90cm in the same event 2 years ago! Meanwhile the 600/800m group were doing their heats with finals scheduled for later in the evening. Amelia, Saoirse Bergin, Pearl, Jessica and Abigail got through to the finals. Hugh, Ella, Lena, Lelia, Saoirse Quinn, Megan and Lauren all ran really well in very competitive heats but didn’t get through this time. Great experience as most were competing indoors for the first time.
The smallies were on stage in the afternoon session with Edward and Canice easily winning their heats but with medals going to the fastest 3 over 4 heats both lads lost out to others in faster heats. Hard luck lads,
Cara ran a great race battling all the way for 4th in her heat, Rion 2nd, Rory 5th, Hector 6th, Noah 3rd, Juliette 4th, Ellen 2nd, Max 9th Lelia 4th all competed very well with nearly all in that group competing for the first time ever in some cases. All the places were awarded on times overall due to the big numbers.
In the finals Amelia came 7th, Pearl was 4th, Jessica 9th, Saoirse 10th, Abigail 5th. Great running from the girls. Tough doing heat and final in one day. A great experience for all the children on the day, it’s not easy dealing with the noise and the bustle in the arena but they all coped brilliantly. Give yourselves a big well done.
Thank you to Catherine, Hilary, Loretta and Emer for looking after the troops.
Day 5……
