National Juniors & Under 23 Championships

With the track season in full swing the National Junior and Under23s were held in Tullamore on Saturday last. We had a contingent of seven athletes competing there, our biggest number ever. Competition was tough and medal hard won, nevertheless we came away with a gold, silver and bronze. The ever reliable Muireann had to dig deep for her third place and had a couple of very close attempts at 3mts which would have been a PB. Allison proved too fast for her fellow hurdlers and won comfortably. Aoife ran a great race to record another PB finishing 2nd in the 800M and Pierre, still gaining fitness finish fourth in a hot 1500m race. Daire ran a brave race in the 3000M and despite leading at halfway couldn’t sustain the pace. Caoimhe was just outside her PB in the 400M and Edel found the last lap of the 1500 very tough having worked herself into a promising position through the halfway point. Well done Everyone.

Results update 1

In Tullamore today we had 4 athletes competing in the juvenile 800m Nationals. Oisin Gavin ran very well in his first nationals in the under 14 age group and will learn a lot from his race today. Joe Fogarty ran a great race just pipped for 3rd place in the under 16 race. Great result after coming up from the gaeltacht on the day. Gillian Murphy ran below her own expectation today but has better days ahead! Sean Donoghue ran his usual gritty race and was leading into the home straight but was caught just before the line. Great race and a very good 2nd place.
