Info for those taking part in Jingle Bells 5k

We be leaving the Hole in the Wall at 10:15am SHARP on Saturday morning, so please be sure to arrive earlier than you usually would for Saturday training.

We will distribute race numbers and jog to the race start (at the 15 acres/the half way point on the jog over to Mary’s Hospital) as our warm up.  If you are not at the Hole in the Wall on time, we will be jogging over without you 😛

We will leave our gear with Brian at the start of the race (Just jumper/jacket/tracksuit bottoms etc  – no bags please as he will not be able to carry them all to the finish! 😉 )

You can wear your club singlet or club t-shirt if you have one, but if you are more comfortable wearing something else, go ahead. Dress for the weather (be sensible) & make sure to bring something warm to wear afterwards.

The race starts at 11am sharp and should take you roughly 30-35mins (that is, if you run/jog/not walk it ha!). The race will finish at the Mary’s Hospital steps so we will meet Brian there afterwards and jog/walk back to the Hole in the Wall as usual.

If you are being collected just warn who ever is collecting you that you will be back a bit later than usual (approx 12ish).

National Cross Country Results 2018

It was a chilly day in Abbotstown on Sunday at the National cross country championships where we had a host of great individual performances resulting in three of our athletes being selected for the European Cross Country Championships in Holland in two weeks time.

Lets start at the beginning. The Junior women’s race was first in a tight programme. Here Jodie,  making her debut for us ran a clever race in a very competitive field. Always with the leaders on this tough course she entered the long finishing in fourth place but unleashed  big driving sprint to claim third, equalling her performance in last years event but this years field was much stronger. Jodi will be Junior again next year. Dora running in the U18 section had a tough time because of persistent stitch, but nonetheless she battled to finish 33RD U18.

Daire had high hopes of making the Junior mens team and got his tactics perfect on the day. Following the usual mad sprint he settled down within the top ten with a clear view of the runners just in front of him. He steadily improved over the four laps and was picking runners up all the way around  the final circuit finishing fifth, and earning his place on the plane to Tilburg. Sean, who is still only 16 and gaining much needed experience ran a very steady race throughout. Mixing it with older guys Sean finish a creditable 8th in his section and 3rd u17 on the day.

We had high hopes of winning a team medal in the women’s senior event but unfortunately we fell a little short when finishing 5th. Nonetheless all ran valiantly with Fian finishing in 16th, Cliona  26th, Susan 40th, Edel 66th and Aislinn 70th. Deirdre was ill and unable to continue after two laps. Fian was 1st and Cliona 3rd in the u23 section and that performance won Fian a place on the u23 team for the European championships with Cliona controversially just missing out on selection.

Some excellent individual performances to build on going in to the New Year, well done all!
