Nationals in Abbottstown

Day 1 of the National juveniles and the national seniors were held in Abbottstown today. First off were our under 12 girls who were all first timers at Nationals. Unfortunately a tummy bug left Erin unable to compete but there will.be other days for her. The girls did their best in tough conditions and were led in strongly by Joclyn. They finished best of the three Dublin teams on the day.

The under 16 girls ran to form and Aisling ran most of the race with one spike. We managed to reunite her with her spike later in the day. Well done to Caolan , Cliodhna, Clare and Aisling.

Celine Gavin had the run of her life improving from being placed in the 50s last year to a super 7th this year in the
Under 18 race and 2nd placed Dublin athlete. Jodie McCann won the junior womens race very impressively and led our junior team of Celine, Dora and Sara to 3rd team overall.

In the senior women’s race Cliona Murphy was outstanding coming 13th overall, 2nd Dublin athlete in and helped Dublin to gold in the inter county. Pierre had a fine run in the men’s race coming 5th under 23. Edel Monaghan, Aislinn Moorehouse and Aoife found the 8k of mud very tough but all battled to the end. Very tough under foot conditions today and lots of results very different from predictions but that’s cross country. Great days racing and thanks to all the supporters.

Athletics Ireland website down at the moment so only have a few results.

University road relays

On Sat last we had a big group of our older athletes in action at the inter varsity road relays in Maynooth. Cliona Murphy has a great run for Trinity college and helped her team to first place in the women’s event. Nadia Power and Jodie McCann were both very impressive helping DCU to 2nd place overall. Edel Monaghan and Aoife Corr were very strong representing TUDublin.

In the men’s race Pierre Murchan ran a brilliant 3mile leg and helped his team from Galway University to 3rd place.

Well done to all . Great to see our older athletes representing their colleges so well.
