Results from under 23’s

In Athlone today we had two athletes in action at the National under 23 indoor championships. First off was Cliona Murphy in the 1500m and she ran a great race finishing 2nd in a personal best indoor time. Muireann was up next in the pole vault where she also got a personal best and nice gold medal!! Well done to both girls.

Athlone was the destination for our women’s track and field team today with the aim of securing our place in the final next weekend. With places at stake for Abbotstown on February 3rd competition was strong amongst our team members and the results were positive.

Catherine was impressive in the first event of the day-the 200M- and won easily in 24.61, Emily won the High Jump well in 1.60M which was excellent following a disrupted couple of weeks due to injury. Claire ran strongly in a very competitive 1500M finishing strong for second place in 4.40.96. Niamh, Emily(Murphy) and Sara Jane all performed well in the guest race over 1500M. Siobhan volunteered to try the Triple Jump and secured 3rd for 5 valuable pints. In the final event Caoimhe finished 4th in the 400M and in the guest race this distance Catherine ran a fine 54.71 which was an indoor best for her.

All in all another good day for the team and we go into the final leading the scores. On Saturday next however everyone starts back at Zero and we will have to be at our best in order to retain the title. Hopefully we will have a good group of spectators there to cheer the team on!
