Celtic athletes impress in DCU schools cross country
We had a very successful day in DCU for our athletes who were representing their secondary schools. St Dominic’s college was represented by Clare o Connor who finished a very impressive 4th in the junior girls race leading her team of Alex, Kate, Keelin and Kacey to team gold. In the inter girls race Dora was the overall winner with great back up from Gillian, Clare, Sara and Cliodhna all packing well to win the team event.
Sean Donoghue (st Declans)kept his good form with yet another impressive win in the inter boys race to add to his collection. Great running everyone. Well done.
Note
Any secondary school cross country athletes who are off school tomorrow meet at Hole in the wall at 10.30.
Results of Indoor National League Round 1
Our womens indoor track and field team turned out at Abbotstown today to begin their defence of their National Indoor League title. There were six events today with 9 points available for a win reducing to 1 for eight place.
Alison was first in action in the 60m Hurdles and delivered a fine win in 9.22 secs which was an excellent PB. The Long Jump was next event which Catherine won in 5.37metres, another excellent performance. Catherine had to go straight to the 60 metres where she finished a fine 3rd in 7.72secs. Bridget Corrigan made her seasonal debut in the Shot and despite being a little short of practice she won in 9.70m. The 800m was the final event of the day and turned to be a tactical affair. Claire tucked in for the first 500m and then cut loose over the final lap and a half to win well.
The final score sees our team leading with 42 points from Donore with 36 and Sli Cualinns 31.
The next round is scheduled for Athlone on January 27th, the events being contested there are 200m, 400m, 1500m, High Jump and Triple Jump. Again we will plan to be well represented there so as to cement our place in the final on February 3rd.
Well done to all, and a special thanks to our supporters for their encouragement.
