Dublin Community Games 2015

The Dublin Community Games athletics finals will be in Santry on the weekend of 13th and 14th June. We had a lot of trophy winners last year and this is a reminder to all to get their trophy engraved and returned directly to Community Games office in Carmichael House or make sure it is brought to Santry on 13th/14th June. Engraving will be done free of charge at Irish Rubies in Marlborough St (behind the Pro Cathedral).

Leinster schools day 1

Glorious sunshine 😊 greeted us in Santry for day1 of Leinster schools championships. Our standout performer on the day was Chloe Corcoran who won 3 silver medals in the minor 100m, 500m and helped her team to 2nd in the relay. Great running Chloe 😊. Alison burke came 2nd in the under 16 long jump, Caoimhe Lynam came 4th in under 16 200m, Alison Armstrong won the senior girls steeplechase, Daire Finn was 4th in the mile under 16 and Ella Mae cromie was 6th in the minor 1100m. Well done to all. Day 2 next Saturday.

League 2 in Tallaght Sat 9th May

What a difference the weather can make! A very pleasant sunny day greeted our young athletes in Tallaght on Saturday in sharp contrast to the monsoon conditions the previous week. In the under 10 200m races we had good performances from Aoife Corcoran, Niamh O Connor, Lia Butler Lynch and a big well done to Cliodhna Ryan on her first outing for the club. Our experienced under 12 girls crew were very strong in their 200m races with Casey, Julianne, Keelin, Alex, Antonia and Antoinette coming 1st or 2nd in their races. In the high jump under 12 Claire O Connor was a delighted and well deserved winner in a huge field. In the girls under 13 race Aoibh Collins and Clare Murphy came 2nd and 5th in their 200m and both girls jumped very well in the high jump. Sara Jane Darcy and Laura May Galvin also competed well in their 200m. Emily Corcoran was a fine 2nd in the shot putt, Chloe Corcoran was a close 2nd in the 200m and an impressive winner of the 1000m wirg Dora close behind her. Sean Donoghue was a good 2nd in his 1000m race. Alison Burke stretched her already big lead in the under 16 girls league with 3 fine wins on Saturday in the 200m, shot putt and the 1000m. Well done to all.

A lot of young athletes who are coming training are not competing for the club. You will never know how good you can be at an event unless you compete at the leagues. This is where you learn your trade. These are fun events where you go from event to event with your pals and get to know athletes from other clubs. All our present senior athletes have very fond memories from the leagues when they were young so dont miss out. Next event this Saturday 11am in Tallaght. Programme on earlier post.

Thanks to all the parents who helped out on Saturday.

Road Novice and Senior Leagues update

Last Sunday our senior womens team competed in the Dublin Road Novice 5k race in Tallaght.. For most of our team this would be their last Dublin novice race as they have won the Cross country novice earlier in the season. Niamh Donnelly finished 3rd overall and led her team of Sinead Cronin 15th, Clare Brennan 17th, Aislinn Moorehouse 18th to yet another novice team gold medal!. Backup runners were Heather Lougheed , Aoife Ni Bhroin and Edel Mc Namara. Well done to the team and their very proud coach Dermot.

On Wednesday night, also in Tallaght the 2nd round of the Graded series took place. We had nine athletes in action on the night. Standout performance on the night was Pierre winning the 3k, other performances of note from Clare Brennan and Cliona Murphy in the womens 800m races and Daire Finn and Finn Burke Power getting their first experience of senior races in the mens 8oom. Well done to all,
