News update

On Sunday at the AAI games in Santry Catherine Mc Manus came 3rd in the hurdles and 3rd in the 100m. Her time in the 100m was her 2nd fastest ever only 20 mins after running the hurdles race which was very good. This weekend Catherine is off to Belgium to compete in an international race there. Niamh Donnelly and Aoife Bi Bhroin ran well in their 800m. Niamh is off to Scotland at the weekend to compete for the Irish Universities team against teams from the English, Scottish and Welsh Universities. Pierre Murchan flew out to Baku this morning to compete at the European Youth Olympics. Also going to Baku was Dublin City Harriers official Declan Curtin who wil be part of the judging panel out there next weekend. Well done and best wishes to all.

Meanwhile at the Primary school sports in Santry on Monday we had athletes representing several schools at the Field event day. Well done to our medal winners Nora Redmond, Billy Brennan, Faoilan O Murachu, Chloe Corcoran and Anna Petit. Well done to all! Busy Times:)

We had a great night at the Donore Sports in weather so cold we could have been at a cross country event! That didnt stop our athletes having great fun in the very relaxed meet that is Donore sports. It was nice to see some of our athletes who dont usually get placed in races getting medals and high places in their events. This creates great confidence for future competitions. Well done to all and if you didnt do as well as you hoped, hang in there.

At League 4 in Tallaght on Saturday we had a smaller gang than usual competing. Nice to see Caoimhe Lynam finding a new event or 2! Well done to Alison Burke, Chloe Corocran, Alex Corr, Sean Donoghue, all the under 11 crew and thank you to the parents who gave their children a chance to take part.

There will be a big inter firm relay race in the Park on Thursday night. It would be better to avoid the park and go down Infirmary road and out to Chapelizod that way or go around the Park via Castleknock.

Competitions are coming thick and fast these Days! Last Wednesday night in Tallaght our big kids were in action in graded meeting number 2. Catherine McManus got the ball rolling with a win in the 200m. Aoife Ni Bhroin came 4th in her 200m. In the 1500m Niamh Donnelly won her race and Cliona Murphy ran a very good time in the same race. Aislinn Moorehouse ran a good race winning the B 1500m for women. Christopher and Annraoi ran in the mens 1500m and will learn from the experience.

Leinster Schools day 2
On Saturday we had Pierre in the Senior boys 800m where he finished 5th in a very competitive race close to his personal best time. An hour later he lined up in the senior 1500m where he was once again up against a very strong field. The race was tactical, practically jogging for the first half and then got into a real dogfight for the last lap. Pierre was 4th with 200m to go but never gave up the fight and was rewarded with a bronze medal. Cliona Murphy was next into action in the senior girls 1500m and ran a very smart race, covering all the moves and ended up in a fine 3rd place with a new personal best of 4min49secs. Well deserved!

Meanwhile in Tallaght our little people were having a busy day. In the 200m the under 11 girls gang of Antonio, Antoninette, Julieanne, Keelan and Alex all ran well. Clare Murphy was very strong in her race and others to impress were Chloe, Emily and Emily, Dora, Ella Mae, Finn, Alison Burke and Caoimhe. Well done to all and if we have ommitted anyone please accept our apologies.

At the D7ET 5K and 7k races in the Park on Sunday Ella Mae won the girls race and Oscar Moloney Daly won the boys event. Great stuff!
