A very tough cross country course greeted the athletes in Waterford today and combined with nasty winds and the odd shower conditions overall were pretty tough. Our under 13 girls were first into action with Chloe Corcoran leading our team after the first lap in 4th place with Ella Mae running in the early teens. However Chloe had gone off too hard and paid dearly having to stop at the start of the 2nd lap. Ella Mae continued running strongly and finished in a superb 9th place overall, a great improvement on her 36th last year. Caoimhe Bresnan who was running up an age group surpassed herself coming in 46th, Dora was a strong 48th, Emily Murphy finished 69th while battling a heavy cold and Ada finished 124th. Chloe managed to complete the course. The team points were quite high overall and a team medal was well within our grasp but the girls will have to wait another day. As well as her medal for 9th place Ella Mae was on the winning Dublin inter county team and also got a silver medal in the inter region event.
In the boys under 15 race our sole runner was Finn Burke Power and he finished in 67th place. In the girls under 17 Alison Armstrong was 56th.
Our boys under 17 were next off with Pierre straight into the leading pack. At the start of the second lap Kevin Mulkare from Ennis track Club pulled away from the group and Pierre tried to pull him back. Mulkare pushed on and Pierre came back to the group to protect his position. Despite being tired he battled on and was passed with 1km to go and eventually finished a very fine 3rd. This was a great run and Pierre can justifiably be very proud of himself. The rest of the lads found the going tough but will have gained from the experience.
Cliona Murphy came 20th in the under 19 girls race. She found it very tough especially since she missed a few days running this week with a sore foot. Well done to all.
