We had five athletes in action at Day1 of the National Juvenile championships in Tullamore today. Alison Burke surprised herself and everybody else with a brilliant run in the final of the under 16 sprint hurdles where she finished 2nd. Alison last won a National medal at under 12 in the 60m so this was long awaited and well deserved. Next off was Alison Armstrong in the 3000m steeplechase. This was her first time to run over the full steeplechase distance and with over 30 barriers to jump it was a tough ask. Alison got stuck in from the start, really concentrated and with a very strong sprint finish was a delighted gold medal winner. Next into action was Emily Corcoran in the high jump under 15. Emily was very disappointed with her indoor jumping in Athlone earlier in the year but she jumped really well today and was rewarded with a bronze medal equalling her pb of 1m 55cm. Aoife Corr ran in the final of the 800m under 19 and ran very competively and may have got a pb but results were unavailable up to now. Finn Burke Power qualified for the final of the 800m but found 2 hard races back to back very tough although he gave it his very best. Well done to all, we have had worse days😊
