Great club news from Athlone today at the National junior and under 23 championships. First into action was Emily Corcoran in the junior high jump and she finished a fine third in a seasons best of 1m66 narrowly missing 1.69. Muireann meanwhile was having the best day of her pole vault life clearing a new pb of 2m 90cm and winning the under 23 title. On the track Luke McCann was in spectacular form easily winning the under 23 1500m in a new championship best time and Darragh Finn came 2nd in the same race. Alison Burke ran a seasons best in a very competitive 6Om hurdles coming 4th in a blanket finish. Well done to everyone on a very busy and successful weekend for the senior club.

There was delight all round in Athlone today as our senior women’s team managed to retain their National Indoor League title for the 3rd year in a row. This is also the first time a women’s team have managed a 3-in-a-row for the Indoor League so a great achievement by all!

The day was kicked off with Catherine winning the 200m comfortably in 24.84 and in a similar fashion, Emily won the high jump clearing 1.65m with ease.

Next up in the field events was Siobhan in the triple jump who secured a solid 6 points for the team. Jodie then coasted to an easy victory in the 1500m in a time of 4:36.11 followed by Claire in the guest 800m running a solid 2:18.62.

Catherine was back on the track again after a quick break and won the 400m in a steady 56.65. Caoimhe also guested in the 400m and improved on her performance from League 1 by getting 2nd in a time of 60.30

To round out a great days work, Chloe, Alison, Caoimhe and Catherine then dominated in the women’s 4x200m relay to secure the overall trophy.

A massive congrats to all our team and guest competitors today and of course all our team members who put in the ground work in League 1 two weeks ago.

Winning National Senior medals does not come easy, but it can certainly be made to feel easy when you have such a committed team of athletes, coaches and supporters behind you – well done & thanks to all!

Under 16 team needs to be there for 7.30.

Omitted Christopher and Joseph who both battled hard in the inter boys race on Thursday. If we left anyone else out contact Mary.

Last Thursday we had a group representing their schools in the Phoenix Park. Connor Maleady had a great run in the minor boys race finishing 10th and helped his St Declans team to 3rd place. In the inter boys race Sean Donoghue ran to qualify and Connor Murphy ran well coming 23rd. Others who ran and we don’t have places for them were Ella and Oisin. In the North Leinster junior race Clare o Connor ran well coming 6th , with good back up from Cliodhna Ryan, Kacey Tully, Aisling Keenan and Hazel Maguire finished 2nd team for St Dominics. In the inter race Clare and Gillian Murphy, Sara Byrne and Cliodhna Do came 3rd team. Also finishing 3rd were the senior team from St Dominics with Dora, Keelin, Celine, Laura and Emily on the team.
Lots of work to do between now and Lei nster championships in 3 weeks time in Santry. Thanks to all the parents who supported on a miserable day for everyone.

Sat 26th Jan Best of luck to our women’s team Catherine, Emily, Chloe, Jodie, Caoimhe, Siobhan and Alison at the indoor league second and final round in Athlone.

Training today for sprints group and older middle distance group (2003 and older ) Santry at 10.30.

Sun 27th Jan Hole in the wall 11am everyone. Good luck Jodie, Darragh, Alison, Luke and Emily at the National junior and under 23’s in Athlone today.

Tuesday 29th Jan Bogies at 4 for anyone who’s free. Everyone else NIA meet at 6.45. Bring 2 euro.

Thur 31st Jan St John Bosco school hall 7pm everyone. Gym group 7 pm.
