We had 9 of our older athletes racing at the graded meeting in Irishtown on Wednesday night. Results are up tonight on Dublin athletics website. In the 100m races Catherine McManus won the A race and Alison Burke won the B race. In the 800m races Niamh Donnelly and Daire Finn and Aoife Nibhroin had good wins, Evan McMillan had a very good run in his 800, Clare Brennan, Olwen and Aislinn Moorehouse all were competitive in.their 800,s. Well done to all.
Senior athletes please note graded meeting this Wednesday is in IRISHTOWN stadium.
Day 1 of the National juvenile championships got off to a golden start for the club when Emily Corcoran won her first National title in the under 16 girls high jump. Conditions were cold and breezy and the run up was quite slippy but this didn’t deter Emily as she cleared 1m 60cm to claim the gold medal. Great jumping Emily! Next up was Alison Burke in the heats of the under 17 girls 100m hurdles where she finished 3rd. Ranked 4th going into the final Alison ran a great race to finish a fine 3rd and was chasing 2nd all the way to the line. Daire Finn was 3rd in heat one of the 800m under 18 and that heat was won in a time nearly 5 seconds faster than heat two. In the final which was the last race of the day Daire ran a really smart race and won his first National title! Well done Daire!. Overall this was a great day for the club and great credit to all three athletes who train really hard. All of them have had bad days at the track like all athletes but they have learned and moved on.
