National League Round 1 (Jan 16th)

We had a host of Celtic/DCHers opening up their indoor seasons at the National League in Athlone today.

Special mention to our DCH Women’s Team who managed to finish at the top of the league table by the end of the day . Scoring members for the team this weekend were Catherine in the Shot Putt (3rd) & 60m Hurdles (1st), Alison Burke in the 60m (6th) & Long Jump (4th), Niamh Donnelly in the 800m (2nd) and Muireann McGinley in the Pole Vault (3rd). Great work and onwards to League Round Two on the 30th of Jan where even more of the team will be out in force!

DCU Schools cross country

We had a great turnout of athletes in action today at the DCU schools invitation races. First off were the minor girls and we had Anna Petit, Clare Murphy, Sara Byrne, Cliodhna Donaghy and Gillian Murphy all running well in a very short race and coming 3rd team over all for St Dominics College. In the minor boys race Sean Donoghue showed his class and maturity with a very impressive win for St Declans in a field of just under 300 runners! Conor Murphy finished 99th and Killian Corcoran lost a shoe but kept going and finished his race.

Dora Medgyesy had an equally impressive win the the junior girls race leading her team from St Dominics to 2nd place with Sara Jane Darcy also on the team.

In the inter boys race Ben Casey ran well in a competitive field and will be in the same age group next year. In the senior girls race Ellen Byrne ran a strong race closely followed by Aoife Corr with Abbey Corr, Emilly Murphy and Aoife Donaghy all helping St Dominics to 2nd team overall. Bem Quinn ran for Belvedere in the senior boys race and had to stop due to a sore calf. Well done to everyone. All the athletes needed this race badly to shake out the cobwebs and get ready for the Leinster zones which start next week. Thanks to all the parents who supported today.

Thanks to Ken Donoghue for the pics!
