Clonliffe Schools crosscountry

First club athletes into action today were the girls from the local Primary , schools. Emily Murphy had her best race ever in finishing 2nd overall in a huge field and led her Celtic team mates Anna Petit, Gillian Murphy and Sarah Byrne to helping MHOC win the team title. The girls from D7ET finished a fine 3rd overall, with Nina, Sophie, Ada, Hannah and Aislinn on the team.

Billy Brennan had a super run and he finished 3rd in the boys race. Conor Murphy and Ben Quinn were on the John Bosco and both lads ran very well in a very big field. Louis and Oliver also ran well for D7ET. The standard and numbers in both Primary schools races was way up on last year.

In the minor girls race Katie Hannah faded over the last 100m and fell back from her earlier 4th place to finish in 8th, the other club girls Emily and Abbey got blocked in the crowd and finished a bit back.

In the Junior boys race Darragh Finn ran a great race to finish 4th with Finn Burke Power a fine 8th place in the same race. In the inter girls race Alison Armstrong came 8th in her opening race of the year closely followed by 2nd placed team of Aoife Corr, Alison Burke and Ellen Byrne from St Dominics. Ben Quinn had a solid run finishing in the early twenties in the inter boys. Michael Hanley was down the field a bit and both boys are inter again next year.

In the senior girls race Cliona Murphy ran a gutsy race finishing 2nd overall and led her team from St Dominics to a fine 2nd place. The Senior boys race completed the programme and Pierre showed that he is wintering well finishing a fine 2nd despite a heavy fall om the last lap, Eoin finished in the 30’s and Danny in the 40’s, both running solidly.
A great day out for all the gang and we look forward to our next days racing on the 20th of October in the Phoenix Park.

League 3 St Annes Park

Well done to the 47 club athletes and their parents who made the trip to Raheny for league 3 in St Annes Park. Great runs all round from everyone and great race experience gained. We have a big gang running in Santry on Wednesday in the schools cross country and our next club outing will be in the Phoenix Park on Sunday the 20th of October for League 4.

Our novice womens team finished in a fantastic 2nd place in the Dublin Novice behind Liffey Valley in St Annes Park Raheny today. The girls were equal on points with DSD but got 2nd on countback!

Leading the team home with a fine run in this very competitive event was Niamh Donnelly jn 7th place closely followed by Aislinn Moorehouse in 8th, Sinead Cronin was 17th, Heather was a brave 25th (just off an antibiotic for a throat infection yesterday) and Aoife 35th. The places of our last two runners were crucial in securing the team silver for the girls so a particular well done to Heather and Aoife.

It was very satisfying for all the parents and coaches who have been around for years to see a novice team who have been with us since they were very young , some for over 10 years! Well done girls!
