Catherine & Nadia medal at Nationals day 2

Day 2 of the National seniors got off to a start for the club with Edel and Lauren in the women’s 5k. Conditions were very unseasonal for good times but Lauren ran a personal best and unfortunately Edel had an injury which forced her to drop out. In the men’s 5k Pierre was also forced out with a painful achilles. Hard luck to both.

Catherine headed into the final of the 400m not having much expectations beyond 4th or 5th but she proved yet again that she can’t be written off with a gallant 3rd place finish.

Nadia has been concentrating on 800m all year but turned her attention to the 1500 national and finished a fine 2nd. Sean didn’t have the best of days in the men’s 1500m final but will benefit from the experience of running with the big boys! Craig was certainly up against the big boys in the long jump with most of the competitors towering over him! He finished 10th overall, not bad against experienced senior athletes. Well done everyone.

Catherine competes tomorrow in the 200m, heats at 11 and final at 14.10. Will be live-streamed on athletics Ireland YouTube. Best of luck Catherine.

National senior day 1 results

The heats of the 400, 800 and 1500m were held in Santry tonight. Performance of the night was the massive pb by Joe Fogarty in the 800m heats, knocking over 5 seconds off his previous best set two weeks ago. A great breakthrough for him with a time of 1.58.88 on top of his pb in the 1500m last night in Tallaght. Nice to see the solid training over the last few weeks paying off. Well done Joe!Catherine Mcmanus had a very nice run in the 400 as did Sean Donoghue and Nadia Power in the 1500m with all three qualifying for their finals tomorrow.

Sinead Cronin, Aislinn Moorehouse, Aoife Ni Bhroin, Ellen Byrne and Aoife Corr all competed well in their very competitive heats but won’t progress to the finals tomorrow. Well done to everyone.

Day 4 Dublin juvenile results

We had our 1500m runners under 17/18/19 out in Tallaght for their Dublin championships last night. First off was Cliodhna Ryan who was returning after an injury and found the first race back a shock to the system but will benefit from the experience. Next off was Clare, Jana and Aisling in the under 18 race. Clare had run in the graded 2 weeks ago and clearly has the benefit of a race in her legs improving over 20 secs on the previous outing and running a pb. Jana and Aisling both ran strongly on their first race since the first lockdown. Christopher had a very good run in his 1500m running a very good 4m 49 which has to be a best time ever. Joe was in the first heat of the 1500m which headed off at a very strong pace and Joe hung in very well with the pace finishing 2nd and improving by 4 secs on his previous best from the National Junior the week before. Well done to all.
