International Success For DCH Athletes

Phew where to start!!..😅

Sean is off to EYOFs in Baku!

We had some great news during the week that Sean O’Donoghue has been selected to compete at the European Youth Olympics Festival (EYOF) in Baku in the 1500m. Sean demonstrated true perseverance this season with a few ups and downs and is a great example of an athlete who has taken on board learnings from each race to improve on the next one. This will be Sean’s first major underage champs and certainly not his last!

Pierre & Luke are off to European U23s!

Some more great news! Pierre and Luke were selected on the European U23 team who will be competing in July in Sweden.

Pierre has been through it all this year, worked hard in training and on his rehab AND even got a first class honours in his degree at the same time as earning another international cap. Massive congrats Pierre, a great achievement!

Luke is also having a stormer of a season and last night in Watford catapulted himself to the top of the Irish rankings for the 1500m with a time of 3.41.70! Certainly much more to come so we are excited what he can do in Sweden against the best in Europe.

Emily is off to CSIT in Spain!

Fresh from the Leaving Cert, Emily is heading to the CSIT World Sports Games in Tortosa,  Spain on Tuesday. Emily will be competing in the High Jump and will be looking to get close to her PB! Best of luck Emily – enjoy the experience!

Catherine is (finally!) home from The European Games

After a tiring but exciting 10 days in the Olympic Village in Minsk, Belarus, Catherine is back home from the European Games!

Catherine was part of Team Ireland and was a part of history having been a member of Ireland’s very first mixed 4x400m team in Round 1 of the competition and held her nerve in the very tense last leg of The Hunt medley relay in the Quarter Finals to hold on to 4th place. We all know how much Catherine likes a league/team competition so we had no doubt she was the perfect person for the job to put her neck on the line for Team Ireland! The team in Minsk was also Ireland’s very first Dynamic New Athletics Team so it will certainly be something to tell the grand kids about in future.

Then, after over 13 hours travelling and 3 flights home on Saturday she then managed to run a seasons best in the 100 & 200 at the League on Sunday! Heading in the right direction!

We are so proud to have named 5 internationals so far this summer – it is a great achievement for the club and for all the coaches, helpers and volunteers who each have a part to play in the success of our athletes.

Well done all and here’s to many more Irish vests for our athletes in the near future!
