In Santry today Sean Donoghue had a great run in the 1500m the Tailteann games which is the trial for the schools international on July 20th in Wales. Sean was up against all the lads from the all Ireland schools where he finished 2nd at the beginning of June. There was no stopping him today as he stormed though the last 600m and held on to record a fine win!

On Wednesday last in Paris Pierre was very happy with a seasons best time in the 1500m. Last Sunday in Loughborough BMC races Daire Finn ran a seasons best in the 1500m and today he was just outside that time in the IMC meeting in Belfast.
Well done everyone!

Joe Moore, RIP

We are brokenhearted to learn of the death yesterday morning of one of our senior vice presidents and club stalwarts Joe Moore.

As a club we have been so blessed to have many members who selflessly gave of themselves to assist younger athletes and Joe exemplified this in so many ways as an accomplished athlete, coach, captain, administrator and club president. Whatever role Joe undertook was delivered to the highest standard and with the utmost integrity. He took an interest in race starting long before the electronic age but he embraced the new technology and remained as a senior starter until quite recently. Joe suffered with illness over recent years but faced down his issues with determination and not a little humour, christening himself Lazarus following a particularly difficult bout of illness!

Dublin City Harriers celebrated 100 years in existence last year and Joe was at the celebration dinner in great form and ‘holding court’.

When we think of Joe we will remember a wonderful Christian gentleman who never said a bad word about anyone and who helped everyone he could. Most of all we will remember a great clubman and dear friend. Our thoughts are with Pa`d and his family.

The Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will take place on Monday next, 24 June, at 10 A.M in St Mochta’s Church, Porterstown.

Last weekend we had athletes competing in day 3, 4 and 5 of the Dublin championships in Santry. On Fri night Joe Fogarty finished 4th in the 1500m under 16. Our under 18 boys 4x400m relay team of Sam, Sean, Ian and Rowan finished 2nd. In the under 12 girls relay our team Martha, Bianca, Erin and Aimee won the heat very well. In the final our cracking little team came 2nd but a minor lane infringement meant they were unfortunately disqualified. The girls were very upset but these things happen even in the Olympics. We know and they know how well they ran and there will be plenty more opportunities in the future.

On Sat morning Clare Murphy, Ashley and Ian finished 4th in their 400m races. In the afternoon Sam had a great run in his 200m , he made the final of the Dublins for the first time and came 6th. We had 3 in the under 16 girls 200m final, Antonia was 3rd, Aontoinette 4th and Keelin 7th.

On Sunday Erin and Aoibhinn ran strongly in a very competitive 600m final under 12, Aoife Corcoran finished a very good 6th in the 800m under 14.

On Saturday Dave Gogarty ran a personal best for 5mile in the National 5mile in the Phoenix Park. Well done to everyone and thank you to all the parents for their support.
