National Junior & Under 23 update

First Celtic athletes into action today in Athlone were Daire Finn and Evan McMillan in the junior 1500m. Daire ran a well judged race and finished a fine 2nd in a new personal best time time of 4.01.22 sec. This was Evans first indoor race this season and he will benefit from the outing today. Alison Armstrong was also opening her indoor season and she finished a good 2nd in the under 23 womens 1500m. Emily Corcoran jumped 1m.60cm yesterday in her indoor opener and she narrowly missed 1m.65 today finishing 3rd in the junior womens high jump. Muireann Mc ginley won the under 23 pole Vault and Aoife Corr ran to form in the junior womens 800m. Well done to all.

DCH Women Top of The Tables in League Round 2

Our DCH women’s team had another successful day out at the National League Round 2 in Athlone on Saturday.

First up we had the 200m where even despite a slight injury hiccup towards the line, Steph Creaner managed to lay down a solid run and secure 8 valuable points for the team. Catherine McManus followed suit with a good run to win the guest 200m race and went on to make her triple jump debut on behalf of the team. Even though she came a very graceful last place, she scored a whole three points for the team. It remains to be seen whether or not she will be swapping the hurdles for the triple jump for the rest of the season…

Emily Corcoran put in an excellent performance to win the League high jump with an easy 1.60m clearance, opting to skip attempts at a further height to save her legs for the National Juniors on Sunday. As we can see from Brian’s pics – there’s certainly more height there! Great jumping Emily!

Next up we had Susie McManus who put in a very gutsy run in the League 1500m to secure 5 points for a solid 6th place. We then had Clare Brennan and Cliona Murphy in the guest 1500m who ran 4.48.35 and 4.53.40 respectively in a very high quality field. In her final event of the day, Catherine placed an unexpected 2nd in the League 400m with a lifetime 400m PB of 56.64. Capping off the successful Saturday we had Aoife Ni Bhroin who placed third in the second women’s 800m guest race in 2.27.12.

Well done ladies, great team work – on to the final!
