Dublin Championships Day 1 Phoenix Park

Our athletes were in great form on a lovely day for cross country in the Phoenix Park today. First off were our under 10 girls with Aoife, Sheona, Lilly and Niamh all running very well and narrowly missing out on 3rd team. Finn and Oisin both ran very well in the boys race. Our under 12 girls team were in great form with Antonia coming a very fine 2nd, Alex 11th, Antoinette 12th, Keelin 15th, Kacey 18th, Clare 26th and Julianne 27th. The team finished first overall and have qualified for Nationals in Santry on the 22nd of November. Well done girls!

Next up was our under 14 girls and despite losing athletes due to illness and other committments our girls ran well with Claire Murphy leading the team and Cliodhna, Laura May, Sara and Sara Jane all completing a tough 3 k course. Sean Donoghue was next up in the boys 3k and he ran a really smart race to record a fantastic win. His first Dublin cross country title! Great run Sean. Ben Casey ran in the under 16 boys 4k and he found it very tough but he battleed all the way to the end. In the Boys under 18 race Daire Finn was running up an age group and Evan and himself were running 6k for the first time. Daire had a great run finishing 3rd and Evan also ran really well just finishing one place outside the medals.

In the junior womens 4k race Cliona Murphy finished a fine 10th with Alison Armstrong not far behind. In the mens race Pierre was racing cross country for the first time in 12 months and did very well coming 3rd in his race leaving many top juniors behind him. A long day all. Thanks to everyone who stayed to support our older girls Niamh, Claire, Sinead, Aoife, Edel and Fiona in the open 5k. They all raced hard in their first senior outing for the current season in a very competitive field. Great day! Cant wait for the next races. ☺

Celtic Athletes excel at schools cross country.

Celtic athletes were out in force at the annual ‘Brother’ schools cross country today in Santry. We had a big gang in the primary schools race for 5th and 6th girls with Antonia and Antoinette Shodiya, Kate Harrold, Alex Corr, Claire O’Connor, Keelin Gogarty and Alannah Keogh ( all Mary Help of Christians school) running really well and winning the team race. Kacey Tully also had a brilliant run for St Catherines. James McManus led the John Bosco team to 3rd place in the Primary schools boys race.

In the minor girls race for secondary schools St Dominics girls Clare Murphy and Anna Petit were a brilliant 2nd and 4th backed up by super runs from Sara Byrne and Cliodhna Donaghy. Gillian Murphy continued her comeback after a nasty knee problem had a brave run and the team were 2nd overall. Sean Donoghue ran a superb race for St Declans in the boys race winning in fine style with Conor Murphy chasing hard all the way through. In the junior girls race Dora Medgyesy was a fine 2nd and led her team from St Dominics to first place with Libby Peppard in great form and Sara Jane Darcy also running very well.

In the inter boys race Daire Finn ran a very impressive race to record yet another fine win for St Declans. Such a pity a big school like St Declans cant get teams out to support our boys. Last race of the day for Celtic was the senior girls with Ellen Byrne having a great run in 4th place, with Aoife Corr a fine 5th and with Abbey Corr battling all the way ensuring first team for St Dominics with great back up from Aoife Donaghy. Ben Quinn ran in the senior boys race for Belvedere and hung on well despite the distance being a bit long for him. Great day!. Well done to all. A big thank you to all the parents who supported.
