National Novice

IMAG0265

Our senior girls were concluding a very busy and successful season of cross country today in Santry by competing in the National Novice championship. The girls battled hard in very cold conditions and finished 2nd team by one point behind DSD. Everyone of the team gave their all with Niamh Donnelly finished 9th, Clare Brennan was 14th despite a heavy nosebleed for most of the race, Aislinn Moorehouse was 20th and Sinead Cronin fought all the way to the line for 34th place. Heather and Aoife didnt make the scoring team but raced all the way to the finish. Olwyn had a recurrence of a knee problem and had to drop out but will be back another day. The state of the team after the race showed the effort they put in so a big well done to every one of you. Niamh and Clare were scoring members of the winning Dublin team. It was tough to lose the title by one point but the club is very proud of all involved with our older girls today. Next Year!!!

National Juv Day 2 Santry

We had 2 teams in action today in Santry at day 2 of the Nationals. Our under 11 girls finished 10th and all ran well, with Alex Corr having a great run finishing 34th overall and winning a bronze medal on the Dublin inter county team. Our under 13 girls all ran solidly but were outside the medals. Joint performances of the day were Sean Donoghue who finished a brilliant 8th place in the under 13 boys race in his first Nationals and Cliona Murphy was a very impressive 8th in the under 19 girls race. 8th seems to be the magic place this winter with Ella Mae finishing 8th in the under 14 race two weeks ago. Cliona Carthy ran a much improved race finishing 14th in the under 19 girls race. The 2 Clionas won Dublin inter county silver medals.

Great news for Cliona Murphy as she has made the Irish team for the Celtic International cross country which will be held in Dunboyne in January. Most young athletes start their International careers in the Celtics and hopefully this will be the start for Cliona. Well done to all who ran today, you all gave it your best and thats all you can do. Thanks to the parents who supported all the young athletes.
