We had a huge turnout of athletes this morning in Santry. Thank you to all the parents who brought their children out and supported them. It makes the coaches jobs so worthwhile!. These types of races builds confidence in the young athletes and helps take away the fear factor. It would be hard to find a better mothers day present than being able to watch your healthy child running in a race no matter where they finish. Good times;)

Death of Joe Scanlon RIP
We received the sad news on Friday of the death of Joe, Father of our club member James( under 16). Joe had been ill since September and despitethe best efforts of the doctors in the Mater hospital his condition did not improve. A month age Joe was told that the future was looking grim and yet he battled on in his typical good humoured way. On Wednesday last his situation took a turn for the worse and Joe slipped away from his family on Friday. We extend our sympathy to Joyce his wife and his three children Jessica, Laura and James on their great loss. Removal to Navan Rd church will be on Monday next arriving at 5.30. Funeral Mass will be 10 o clock on Tuesday morning. Club members who are going to the funeral on Tuesday are to meet at the traffic light opposite the church at 9.40 on Tuesday. Wear club Hoodies.

This will take no longer than Sunday training and will be low key and will give valuable experience to athletes who are new to competition. There is no point in training forever and not competing. National Juveniles Day 2
Day 2 was a long day in Athlone for our athletes and parents. Aoife Corr and Finn BurkePower had heats in their 800m races and both qualified for the finals. Cliona Murphy had a straight final in her 800m and was still very tired from her great run on Saturday. Ellen Byrne didn’t make it out of her heat.
Finn ran a great race to qualify for the final and was looking good for a bronze medal in the final when he was caught on the line in a photo finish and lost out by 4 one hundreds of a second! Despite the disappointing outcome this was a brilliant performance from Finn and shows what a fine 800m runner he can be. Aoife found two 800m runs in one day very tough and was very tired in her final.
Well done to everyone. All our athletes loved competing in Athlone and us oldies certainly enjoyed the comfort compared to all those cold days in Nenagh.
