National Indoors day 1

Day 1 of the Nationals got off to a great start for our athletes with Alison Burke making the final of the 60m sprint. Alison went on to finish joint 4th in the final. The long jump unfortunately clashed with the sprints so it was a bit messy. Despite a slightly hurt back after the first jump she managed to finish 5th in the long jump final.
Emily Corcoran was next into action and despite a little hiccup at 1m.25cm she went on to jump a new pb of 1m.44cm and won a bronze medal! Great stuff Emily!
Abbey Corr and SJ Brennan were competing their first real walking races. Abbey finished a fine 5th in the under 15 race and SJ battled all the way to the finish in the under 16 race.

Darragh Finn ran the race of his life in the under 16 boys 1500m and was rewarded with a new personal best and a bronze medal. Alison Armstrong was very obviously under the weather with a heavy cold and was well done on her best in her 1500m. Alison was in great form only last weekend over 1500m and was really unlucky to get sick for Nationals. Our final representative today was Cliona Murphy in the under 19 girls 1500m and she also ran a great race to finish 3rd and record a new personal best of 4mins 53.7secs. This was Clionas first individual National medal and was well deserved.

We hope you all enjoyed seeing the races on the livestream. Some photos from the National Seniors and Juvenile Championships here

Inter-Varsity cross country championships Cork

We had two athletes competing in the Inter-Varsity cross country championships in Cit on Saturday. Running for Trinity College Niamh Donnelly finished 19th and for DCU Aislinn Moorehouse finished 27th.Both found the going very tough but battled all the way to the end of a gruelling 5k run.

Irish Schools In Cork

We had four girls competing in the Senior girls race for St Dominics College Cabra at the All ireland schools cross country in CIT on a very sticky course. Cliona Murphy ran her best cross country race in a long time when she finished 8th overall , a great run for Cliona considering that she was only 10th in the Leinster championships. Next in for Celtic was Ellen Byrne in 44th place. Aoife Corr lost a spike in the clinging mud early in the first lap and was at a big disadvantage after that but still kept going. Laragh found the going tough but managed to finish.
