Day 2 of the Leinster schools.

We had two athletes in action today in Santry. First off we had Cliona Murphy running for St Dominics in the inter girls 1500m. Cliona ran a great race and looked as if she would qualify for the Nationals but she ran out of steam in the final 100m and finished 4th. She was very disappointed with her place but was a bit cheered up when she heard she had knocked nearly 6 secs off her best time by dipping under 4mins 58 for the first time. Pierre was next into action and was forced into the lead from early on in a slow run race. He led until the final 200m when Eoin Strutt from Sutton sprinted past him and Pierre was unable to close on him. A good run by Pierre and he achieved his goal of qualifying for the All Ireland schools on the first of June in Tullamore.

Results from graded meeting no 2 Santry 15th May

Graded meeting number 2 was held in cool but calm conditions in Santry last night. The highlight from a club point of view was the great run from Pierre Murchan in the grade A 1500m where he ran under 4 mins 11sec and knocked 7 secs off his personal best. Dylan ran a good 1500m in a pb of 4mins 30 knocking 15 secs off his best. . The official times on the Dublin board website for Pierres race are incorrect so we are waiting for the correction to get actual times. In the womens 1500m Cliona Murphy ran a personal best of 5.03. Clare, Sinead, Aislinn and Niamh all ran strongly. Danny ran a decent 200m and Aoife had her first outing over 200m in many years.

Leinster Schools day 1 results

A good days work in Santry by our athletes today at Day 1 of the Leinster schools. First into action was Finn Burke-Power running for St Declans in the minor boys 500m where he finished a fine 3rd. In the junior boys 800m Ben Quinn was running for Belvedere and despite running a fine new personal best was narrowly edged out of the medals. Dara Finn St Declans was a fine 3rd in the minor boys 1100m. Sara Curran was unfortunate to hit a hurdle and was out of the 75m hurdles. In the inter girls steeplechase Cliona Carthy ran a great race finishing 2nd with Alison Armstrong an impressive 3rd. The relays were the last events of the day and Alison Burke was on the St Dominics team which finished 2nd in the minor girls race and Ellen Byrne was on the under 16 St Dominics 4 x 300m team which also finished 2nd. Well done to all.
