Results from Antrim Sat 21st

Alison Armstrong finished 9th over a tough course of 3600m at the cross-country races in Antrim on Saturday. This was a very good result for Alison and shows she has kept her form since before Christmas. Pierre also had a great run finishing a fine 4th in a very competitive race won by Euan Gillham, 2nd place Josh Kerr both from Scotland, 3rd was Liam Fitzpatrick from DSD. Pierre and Alison are both in action on Thursday morning at the West Leinster Schools in the Phoenix Park.

Indoor

Results From Wales and Nenagh

Meanwhile in slightly warmer surroundings Steffi Creaner won the women’s 200m at the Welsh indoor championships in Cardiff on Sunday in a new personal best time of 24.65. Also on Sunday Catherine Conroy finished 3rd in the 800m at the National Junior indoors in Nenagh with Clare Brennan finishing 4th. Sarah Curran cleared 1m55 in the high jump narrowly missing 1.60.

Times For Training

Saturday 21st Jan 

Coaching for shot putt in Santry at 11.30 till 1pm, Bring warm gear. Bring €2 ; Those who should go are Shane, Andrew, Grainne,

Training for hurdles at 11.30, bring €2; Those who should go are Finn, Jamie, Eppie,

Dermot will be there for usual training at 10.30.:  Eoin, Ellen, Hazel

 Brian will be there from 12 noon. He will do Block work with  Eric, Alison and Ciara.

Danny and Liam should do usual track session. 200s-with 30 sec rec. Go out for 11.30am if it suits Michael (text around). Michael can do this session if it suits his Mam better.

All the rest of the Saturday morning gang go to the Hole in the Wall for 10.30. Bring spikes if you have them. Park will be mucky!

R.I.P

All the club members express their sympathy to two of our athletes  whose Dads passed away this week. Maia Ryan whose Dad Fergal died on Monday at the young age of 35 and to Grace Abbott whos Dad, Bob, died on Thursday(20/1/12).   Bobs funeral will be on Monday next. Time has not been confirmed at time of writing. May they both rest in peace.

DCU Cross Country Results

Good Runs by Club Athletes

Our athletes had a great day at the DCU schools cross country races on Wednesday 18th Jan.  In the junior girls race Aoife Corr had the best race of her career to finish a fine 2nd, follow closely by Ellen Byrne in a fine 4th place. Both girls helped St Dominics College win the the junior team race for the first time since 2007. Cliona Murphy had a fine 3rd place finish in the senior girls race, with Eva Redmond finishing a very good 10th and both girls helped St Dominics to 2nd team in the senior race. Danny Byrne Crowley ran a strong race to finish 50th in the inter boys event. Well done to all.

Events for Week Beginning 16/1/12

Schools Cross Country and National Junior Indoors

This week we have athletes in action at the DCU schools crosscountry races in St Clares, Glasnevin. At the weekend Pierre and Alison are going up to Antrim to run in the big cross-country event up there. Next Saturday in Santry starting at 11.30 am there is hurdle training for beginners and shot putt coaching . The session will finish at 1pm. Bring €2 and a drink. We will let you know who is to go, at training during the week.  On Sunday next Sarah Curran, Catherine Conroy and Clare Brennan will be in action at the National Junior Indoor Championships in Nenagh.

On the 26th January we will have athletes at the East Leinster’s schools cross country, on Feb 1st  the North Leinster schools, and on the 2nd Feb. at the  west Leinster’s . Best of luck to all and we hope to have lots of qualifers for the Leinsters onthe 8th Feb.

New Year Training
We hope to see you all back, bright eyed and bushy tailed on Tuesday morning at 11am at the Hole in the Wall. There will be no evening training this week.
Schedule for the next few weeks as follows; 
  • Tues 3rd Jan Hole in the Wall 11am – everyone
  • Thur  5th Jan hole in the Wall 11am – everyone 
  • Sat 7th Jan Hole in the Wall gang to Santry for 10.30 warm up.  Younger Sprinters will be told during this week who needs to come out on Saturday to Santry to learn how to use blocks and what time to be out there at. 
  • Sun 8th Jan Hole in the Wall 11am – everyone
