We had a large turnout of our younger athletes at the league in Tallaght on Sunday. A rare day in Tallaght with no wind and not too cold.

The 400m races under 14/15/16 were first on track and although not usually run for those age groups there was a big turnout. Our highest placer was Goda who won the under 16 race. Maggie, Maisy, Abigail, Ella, Saoirse, Tom, Daire, Martha and Pearl all had a run in the 400s.
In the 500/600 for the younger athletes we had nice running from Sean, Senan, Alex, Hector, Max, Juliette, Darla, Freya
Dillon, íde, Rion, Aisling, Evie, Lelia, Conor, Eoin and Amelia.
We will get full results from all the above races later and of the field events as well. The highest placed field eventer on the day was íde who was a delighted winner of the long jump under 11. She was well warmed up having played a soccer match earlier ! Rion was a fine 2nd in the high jump under 12. Well done girls.

The under 14/15/16 1500m races finished off the program with our 14s
doing the distance on the track for the first time. Pearl was first in in 4th place with Freya, Caroline and Saoirse coping very well with the distance. Abigail, Ella, Hugh and Goda all ran well in their 1500s, Goda finished highest in 2nd place .
These league events are where our young athletes learn to race and try out the field events in a non pressured situation. Great to see the confidence growing since the indoors. Well done to everyone and thank you to the parents who brought and supported their children.
Thanks to Catherine, Hilary, Emer, Mark , Sarah. Maria and Emily who got them all warmed up and on the start line.
Thanks to Dave who officiated for the day with Mary to help run the event.

Happy 90th Birthday to Declan Walsh

Huge congratulations to DCH stalworth, Declan Walsh, who celebrated his 90th birthday last week.

Declan, who wore the Dublin City Harriers singlet with pride for many, many years first appears in our Club History in 1953 finishing 3rd in a club race then 3rd in that year’s Dublin Novice Championships. He finished 4th in the National Junior Cross Country Championships in 1956 and 2nd in the Dublin Senior Cross Country Championships the same year. His exploits are far too numerous to list here (his name appears 113 times in our Club History from 1957!) but it should be mentioned that in his later years, he medalled at National, European and World Masters championships. He also served on our club committee a number of times, including a stint as Captain and two as Vice Captain.

Suffice to say it would be hard to beat Declan’s contribution to our club and to Irish athletics over the years.

Training this week

Tue 18th Apr Bogies at 4 for anyone who’s free. Everyone else HITW at 7.

Thur 20th Apr 5pm group meet at HITW. Everyone else 7 pm at HITW.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped out at the race in the Park today. Unfortunately the race went the wrong way and ended up short. Very disappointing for everyone but nobody died and life will go on regardless!
