Fine Runs by Club Members in the Even Age National Juvenile Cross Country Championships
Last Sunday we had athletes in action at the All-Ireland Even age groups in Sligo. There had been heavy rain all week in Sligo and the course had a few little lakes in it along with a couple of savage hills! Real cross-country! However our motley crew were not going to be put off by a bit of muck. The under 16 girls were our first into the fray and Alison Armstong (running up an age group) ran a great race to finish a fine 14th. Alison has been going really well in training and really deserved this result. Cliona Carthy ran solidly and finished 24th with Cliona Murphy having a great run in her first Nationals, coming through the field strongly to finish a very respectable 32nd. All three were scoring members of the Dublin Regional or County teams and got bronze medals with the Dublin team. Maia Ryan found the going tough and managed to finish for the team for a 5th team place overall, only 14 points off 3rd

Next off was Pierre (also running up an age group) in the under 16 boys race. After the first mile he was around the mid thirties and looking good. He started to move strongly through the field and with a half mile to go was in 12th place. He put on the pressure and on the long hill up to the finish managed to get up to a fantastic 9th place. With 3 athletes in the first nine the Dublin team won silver inter county medals and bronze inter regional medals and Pierre scored on both teams. This was a brilliant result for Pierre and is well deserved after all the training he has done since September. On Sunday week in the Curragh the uneven age groups will take place and all the above except Cliona Murphy will be in action again. Best of luck to all.
