Hi everyone, we got the go ahead for the Bogies tomorrow 🙏🙏🙏. Any of our younger athletes on school teams need not come training tonight. Any parents free to during the races please come down for 10.30. thank you.

Well done to Chloe Corcoran who finished 5th in the 60m under 18 final in Athlone today. Dora also finished 5th in the final of the 1500m under 18 in 4mins 58 just outside the time she ran in her heat earlier in the day. Two 1500m on one day is a hard day at the office!! Gillian Murphy came 11th in a very fast under 16 race and Emily Murphy just missed qualifying for the under 18 final. Long day. Well done everyone.

Club training is cancelled today due to weather conditions.

Wed 21st Mar primary schools cross country in Bogies. Any adults who can help please be there for 10.30 if possible. Races start at 11.

Best of luck to Gillian, Dora Chloe and Emily in the Nationals in Athlone on Sunday. Check in closed at 9.30. 1500m races start with under 16 at 10.50

Go girls!!!

Saturday was a busy day for Celtic cross country athletes. At the InterVarsity cross country in Santry Cliona Murphy had a great run coming 7th in the womens race and her team from Trinity College came 3rd.

In Waterford our secondary school athletes were in action at the all Ireland schools. Joe Fogarty came 22nd in a very competitive junior race. Heavy rain overnight and the snow from last week made for a very trying course.

The inter girls team from st Dominic’s were 3rd in the Leinster’s but with the return to the team of Gillian Murphy they were quietly confident of a good result. However 3500m of muck and 3 big climbs was going to be a tough challenge. Dora led the girls and despite not at her best she fought all the way to stay in the race and finished 21st. Not far behind in 24th Gillian and Sara 26th were fighting with everything they had to help their team. Clares shoe was sucked off by the muck on the first lap and she struggled with the slippery ground for the rest of the race but ran her heart out like the rest of the girls.

The girls and the support team were estatic when the results were announced and st Dominic’s FIRST seemed like a dream! It was true, the slog for the last few weeks paid off and our girls were all Ireland schools champions. Tears of joy and relief all round. Well done girls, well deserved. St Dominic’s last won the inter team title in 2005!

Sean was on the starting line as the girls were finishing and he set off on his 6k mudfest. He still has another year in the inter age group but he held his own very well today. Over the last of the 4 laps he went from 7th to 4th and was a tired happy young man when he crossed the line. He also secured his place for the second time on the Irish team for the school’s international in England in two weeks time.

Great day. Tough day. Many thanks to Mr Avery of st Declans for their school bus which enabled both schools to travel together today.
