National seniors
What a weekend our older athletes had at National seniors! Very unusually for Santry conditions were brilliant for racing and jumping. Our first medal winner was Emily Corcoran who got her first senior National medal finishing joint 3rd in the high jump. Catherine Mc Manus was 5th on Saturday in the final of the 200m and she started Sunday by qualifying for the 100m final. Next she ran the 100m hurdles and came 2nd, then the 100m final coming 3rd in a personal best time. Susie Mc Manus and Aoife Nibhroin both ran well in the 800m heats, Pierre Murchan continued his comeback qualifying very well for the 1500m final where he finished 11th in a tactical race. Niamh Donnelly came 7th and Clare Brennan 15th in a tactical women’s 1500m final.
In the womens 4×400 Susie led the team off and handed over to Niamh in 2nd place who in turn handed over to Clare. Niamh and Clare had just finished their 1500m races and a good 50m gap was opened by the time Catherine got the baton in 2nd place. What seemed like an impossible task at the change over looked ever more possible as Catherine gradually closed the gap. By one hundred meters to go Catherine was level, all the club supporters were having heart attacks as she powered down the finish for a great win for the team. What a run! Great running by all the girls who gave it everything and really thrilled all our younger athletes who were there cheering them on. Thanks to all the parents and supporters over the two days in Santry.

Not a great night for sprinting but Catherine McManus won her 200m race. The high jump for women was cancelled due to the weather.

Golden day at Nationals day 3!
Joseph Fogarty was first into action today in Tullamore for his first National 1500m on the track. Joe didn’t show much signs of inexperience as he powered his way through on the last lap to win a silver medal. Next up Sean Donoghue ran the race of his life knocking over 9 secs off his pb to win his 3rd national gold medal this year. Emily Murphy ran a great new pb of 5mins 7 secs and finished 8th in her 1500m. Daire Finn was unlucky to finish 4th in the under 19 race but he gave it everything and ran a seasons best.
Emily Corcoran got the afternoon session off to a great start with a win and a personal best in the under 17 high jump clearing 1.66 and so, so close to getting 1m69! Next time Emily!!!
To finish off the day in style Alison Burke ran a great 400m hurdles finishing 3rd in a new personal best time. Great day for the club. Well done everyone and thanks to all the parents who supported our young athletes.
