Dublin Championships Day 1 Update

Today was a historic day for all the young Dublin athletes as they competed in the very first event to be held at the new National cross country course in Abbottstown. First Celtic athletes in to action were Shona and Lily in the under 10 girls race. Shona ran really well and won her first Dublin medal in 10th place, Lily wasnt feeling the best and did really well to finish.
Caolan Collins continued her fine cross country form with a very impressive win in the under 12 girls race. She stayed in the leading group till the last 500m and then pulled away strongly winning her first Dublin title. Leah Butler Lynch had her best race so far and is showing the results of regular training by coming a fine 10th under 12. Niamh and Aoife were running up an age and both ran very well.

Most of our under 14 team were running up an age group, Clare Murphy ran very well finishing 10th a big improvement on last year. Aoibh, Antonia, Antoniette, Kacey and Clare O Connor all finished very well in a bunch. Conor finished in the twenties in the boys race. 3k is a long way for under 14 over a tough course so well done to all the gang.

Dora had a great run over 4k under 16 finishing in 4th place up 2 places on last year. Sean Donoghue ran in the under 16 4k where he did very well finishing in 6th place.

Daire Finn was defending his Dublin age group title over 6k. He ran a really smart race, sat in behind the leader for most of the race, pulled away with 500m to go, got pulled back but wasnt going to give up without a fight and sprinted strongly up the straight to a very impressive win. Great running Daire!

Alison Armstrong came 18th in the junior womens 4k race and Evan finished 42nd in the junior mens 6k race. Well done to everyone, thanks to Dave, Kevin and Con who did the stewarding and thank you to all the parents who supported. Uneven age groups will be on Nov 6th in Santry.

(Thanks to Ken Donoghue for the photos!)
