Castleknock Schools cross country

Our St Dominics girls were in good form at the Castleknock College races on Thursday. We were missing Clare Murphy and Anna Petitt due to illness but this didnt effect the rest of the girls. Dora won the first year race in fine style, followed by much improved running from Sara Byrne and Cliodhna Donaghy helping the team to first place overall.

Libby Peppard led the 2nd years to another team win for St Dominics with Sara Jane Darcy running well and a particularly heroic run from Gillian Murphy who is making steady progress in her return to fitness. Well done to all the girls. Keeping St Dominics on the cross country map and another 2 big trophies for the school cabinet. ☺

News Update

Our womens novice team finished 5th in the National Novice in Dungarvan at the weekend Well done Cliona, Sinead, Aoife, Edel and Aislinn. Cliona also helped the Dublin team win inter county bronze as she was the 4th scorer on the Dublin team in 25th place overall.

This weekend all interest heads to France for the European Cross country championships. Our club have particular interest as club member Pierre is on the Irish team for the Junior mens race. Pierre is the first club member to represent Ireland in a European cross country event. He first represented Ireland as a 16 year old in the Celtic international and schools international which is the pathway for most young Irish athletes and it is great to see him progress to European level in 2015. He is underage again for this competition next year and hopefully will get another chance at this event. We send our best wishes to Pierre and all the team and will be glued to the airways next Sunday. When we have details of coverage we will update the website.

Dunboyne Schools Cross Country

Club members representing St Dominics College were very prominent at the Dunboyne Schools races yesterday. In the minor girls race Clare Murphy had a great win with Anna Petit a battling 2nd. Sara Byrne tore down the finishing straight passing a good few runners on her way and the team finished first with great backup from Gillian Murphy.

Dora Medgyesy floated effortlessly over the deep mud and won the junior race by a huge margin with Libby Peppard finishing 2nd in a tough battle with a girl from Rathoath.

Ellen Byrne wasa very good 2nd in the Senior race with Aoife Corr a fine 3rd. Emily Murphy continues her comeback battle, finishing strongly with Aoife Donaghy helping the team to first place.

A great day for the school, well done to all the girls. Next event will be the Castleknock College races on Thursday next for first and second year girls. Great to race against different schools and see what the opposition will be like for the schools championship series which starts in January☺.
