Irish Intervarsity Championships 2015

relay Our DCHers had a great day at the IUAA Championships in Athlone today (6th Feb).

First up we had Catherine McManus who battled hard in the women’s 60m hurdles and came 2nd with a new PB of 8.44 seconds which was a DCU record and moved her to joint 4th place on the Irish All Time List. With little time to recover, Catherine then went on to place 3rd in the women’s 60m against a top class field in the Championships and ran a SB of 7.54 seconds.

We then had Steph Creaner who blasted to 1st place in the women’s 200m and set a massive new PB, IUAA & DCU record of 23.82 seconds! This time also moves Steph to 4th on the Irish All Time list. A fantastic days work from our sprinters!

Representing the DCH middle distancers, we had a great run by Clare Brennan who placed 3rd in the 1500m in a great time of 4.43 and Niamh Donnelly placed 6th in a time of 2.17 in a stacked field in the 800m. The day was finished off with Catherine and Steph making up half of the DCU 4x200m relay team who had a comfortable win and stormed to a new IUAA record! More pictures to follow!

GloHealth AAI Games 2015 in Athlone

Our senior women had a busy time competing in Athlone this weekend!

On Saturday Catherine McManus ran a rare 200m indoor when she won the guest race in 25.06 at the 2nd round of the GloHealth Indoor League. On Sunday Catherine went on to win both the 60m flat (7.57) and the 60m hurdles (8.50) at the AAI games. On Saturday Aislinn Moorehouse ran a very good 1500m finishing 2nd, with good racing from Sinead Cronin and Heather Lougheed in the same event. Steffi Creaner finished 4th in the 60m (7.65) and 2nd in the 200m (24.41) both at the AAI games on Sunday. Niamh Donnelly ran strongly in the 1500m on Sunday and Clare Brennan ran a personal best of 4.44. Aoife Ni Bhroin did a personal best indoor (2:23.47) for the 800m on Sunday. Well done to all. National Juniors/U23s & Welsh Indoor Championships 2015

At the National Junior Indoors in Athlone Cliona Murphy and Pierre Murchan ran really smart races when they both came 3rd in the 1500m event. Great to see both of them medalling indoors after racing in the schools cross country earlier in the week( and studying hard for their leaving cert mocks!) Well done to both. Cliona Carthy was carrying a niggle and dropped out of the 1500m and Alison Armstrong found the pace too much on the day and she finished 8th. Eoin Kavanagh also had a day off from mocks studying today and he had a great run in his first indoor 400m just missing out on a place in the final by one hundredth of a second! In the 800m events Finn Burke Power was in a great position looking like qualifying for the final when he tripped on the kerb of the track, lost balance and pace and unfortunately finished down the field. Ben and Evan found the pace a bit fast in their heats but will benefit from the experience. Good to see Siobhan Mc Ginley returning to racing after a long lay off when she competed in the 400m under 23 where she finished 4th.
