Round up of weekend 1 of Dublin championships

We had a busy weekend in Santry and Tallaght with some very good performances despite the not so Summery conditions. On Friday night our standout performers were James McManus 3rd in the 500m under 11, Daire Finn 1st in the under 17 800m race, Aoife Corr 1st and a pb in the under 18 girls 800m, Alison Armstrong 3rd in the 800m under 19. Other Friday performers of note were Oisin Gavin under 10, Alex Corr under 12 600m, Clare Murphy 600m under 13 and Dora in the under 14 800m.

On Saturday Caoimhe Lynam and Finn Burke Power both had great runs to finish 2nd in their 400m races under 17 in very windy conditions. Alison Burke won her short hurdles and came 2nd in the long jump. CHloe Corcoran had a great battle with the wind and the other runners to come a fine 2nd in her 200m final. Alison Armstrong, Alex Corr and Sara Jane Brennan won their steeplechase and walks races to finish off the day.

On Sunday Alison Burke was off again winning the 250m hurdles and coming 2nd in her 100m final. Chloe Corcoran got another 2nd this time in the 100m. Emily Corcoran won the high jump under 15. Alex Corr and Dora both race brave races in the 600m and the 800m finals but didnt make the medals on this occasion. Well done to all.

Next Friday night in Tallaght we will have the 1500m races at 8pm and on Saturday and Sunday we will need all athletes out at the Community Games to represent Navan rd Parish and help to retain the overall athletics trophy.

Results from Geneva

Catherine McManus had a busy Saturday in Geneva. Her first race was the relay competition where the Irish team finished 3rd. Very shortly afterwards she ran a 100m race finishing in a decent enough time into a strong wind.. She then competed in the first of two hurdles races and she was very pleased to improve her seasons best in both. Steffi Creanor also ran in the relay and then ran in the 200m where she was unfortunately disqualified for running outside her lane. Hard luck.
