League 1 Ardgillen Park

We had a great turnout of 40 athletes today for league 1. It would be unfair to single out anyone as there were many good races but our under 10, 12 and 13 girls were particularly impressive. Consistant training and racing is paying off for those who do it. Thank you to all the parents who brought their children out and supported them.

Next races will be in two weeks.

Some Useful Apps For Running

So, since everyone’s getting back into the long running training here are an example of a few apps that we’ve found come in handy over the past while.

(Check Itunes App Store/Google Play Store to Download em)

These kinds of apps are in no means necessity but what’s handy about them is that you can track your personal PROGRESS. It may be depressing after your first run to see that you were like, I dunno, 30-minute-miling or something but knowing where you’re at can give you the push to beat your best each day. Also its great to look back after a few weeks and months to see how far you’ve come on and improved.

Run Keeper App

This is a handy little free app, very quick to set up and you just hit the ‘Start Activity’ button when you’re starting your long run (or walk if you’re a sprinter!! ooooh burn! 😉 ) and it starts your timer. The app tracks your location/time/average pace and gives you an update every 5 minutes or so in your earphones of your pace/time/distance etc and logs it for you every day so you can see your progress. Very useful if you’re trying to learn to pace yourself on runs. Also syncs to heart monitors if you have one.
Map My Run

This is also another good one – quite similar to the Run Keeper, it’s also free. What’s handy about this one is you can save your different routes so if you want to do your 5/8/10 mile route or whatever you have it recorded so you can look back and check which one it is – and you can also look at routes others have saved ad give them a go. This app also has a food log which you can use if you’re into that kinda thing. There’s also a walking and cycling version if you dabble in either of them!

Nike + Running

This one’s apparently the most popular running app on Itunes anyways. More or less the same as the others above but Nike make it all look a bit cooler. You can add your friends on this too and see how you fair against them aswell.

There are looooads more of these kind of apps the above are just a few examples of how they might come in useful for you. Also most of these give the option to post your progress on Facebook and Twitter so you can show off to everyone.

Sure give them a go and see how you get on. Let us know if you know of any other useful ones and we can give them a go aswell!
