New: Results of Dublin ‘Even Age’ Cross Country here; Map of Marley course next week can be found here
Lots of rain and muck greeted us in Santry for day 1 of the Dublin Cross-country championships. Luckily we were all well wrapped up and many took the advice and wore the wellies. First off were the under 10 girls and Clare Murphy had a great race finishing 4th and led her team of Keelin,Gillian , Alex and Clare to 2nd team and silver medals. Keelan, Alex and Clare were runn ing up an age group! In the under 10 boys Jordan finished 4th and also led his team of Liam,Tom, Conor, and Gowsie to 2nd place. In the under 12 girls race over 2000m Ella Mae ran a brave race finishing a fine 4th, with Emily Murphy having her best race ever not far behind, Dora and a very impressive Anna (running up an age group) leading the under 12 girls to team silver, fine runs too from Sophie, Ada, Sara, Emily Corcoran in her first race back after injury, This was a very tough race for little girls but we have a fine bunch of hardy girls who gave their all on the day. Well done! Billy led the under 12 boys and looked like he had the winning of the race but was pipped at the line and finished a very close 2nd in the under 12 boys. Getting a silver medal in the Dublin championships is a great achievement and Billy should be very proud of his performance. The other under 12 boys Oliver, Ben Thomas, Jordon and Finn found the going tough and finished outside the medals.
In the under 14 boys race the team finished 3rd.9 The under 16 girls team finished 3rd with Alison leading the girls in a fine 4th, Aoife Corr had a great race up an age group with Caoimhe and a much improved Maia making up the team. Pierre had the stand out win of the day in the Boys under 16 race winning by over 100m in a fine display of cross country running. Pierre led his team of Eoin, Ben and a special well done to Michael to 2nd team and a place in the Nationals.
In the women’s Junior race Clare Brennan, Heather , Cliona and Olwyn came 2nd team behind DSD. It was great to see Clare and Heather back in action after a long lay off and hopefully this team will work off this performance in future races.
Next Sat we are all off to Marley Park for day 2 of the championships. details later
