Dublin Juvenile T&F Leagues

Santry Fri. 11th

We had a busy night on Friday last at the smallies leagues in Santry. It was great to see all our athletes trying out all the events and learning how to compete.  We had a  few first timers out on Friday and a big well done to them, Kate Harrold, Ben Quinn, Micha  and Sam. Well done to Sophie English, Liam Burke, Alison Burke, Aoife Corr, Dora, Alison Armstrong, James Scanlon, Pierre, Laura May and  Clare Murphy who were very impressive in their events. Thank you to all the parents who support their children by bringing them out to competitions, as this is the only way the children will learn their trade. Last round of the leagues are on Saturday next in Irishtown starting at 1pm. Programme under league 4 on the side panel on the side panel of this site.

 

Leinster Schools T&F Championships

Day 1 of the Leinster schools are on Wednesday in Santry starting at 1pm. Best of luck to Aoife in the high jump, Grainne in the shot putt, Sarah in the hurdles, Cliona and Pierre in the mile, Siobhan in the hurdles.  On Wednesday night in Irishtown Sinead Cronin runs in the 1500m in the senior leagues.

North Leinster Results

North Leinster Day schools Day 1 was on Wednesday in Santry. Not a bad day for Club Members with a few more qualifying for the Leinsters in two weeks time. Sarah Curran won the inter hurdles, Aoife Corr was 2nd in the Junior high jump, Eva Redmond was 3rd in the senior 400m, Heather Lougheed was 3rd in the senior 1500m, Aisling Moore was 3rd in the senior 100m, Cliona Murphy was 2nd in the under 16 mile and Ellen Byrne had a rough day having to run a heat and final of the 800m within 2 hours and finished a fine 5th. Well done to all.

Schools Track & Field Competition and Results

Day 2 West Leinster’s

On Thursday last Day 2 of the  West Leinsters athletes  got a taste of Winter for their competitions. Despite the horrible day we had quite a few athletes qulaifying for the Leinster Championships.  Siobhan McGinley won the 400m hurdles, Danny Byrne-Crowley had a great run in the 800m to finish 3rd, Catherine Conroy came 3rd in her 800m and Olwyn Kennedy qualified in the 3000m. Grainne Fitzgerald had a fine win in the minor shot and Alison Armstrong won the Junior high jump.

 North Leinster’s.

This week we have more Winter weather in store for the North Leinsters on Wednesday and Friday. Best of luck to all.  Many thanks to all the hardy souls who helped out at the race on Sunday night in the City center. Was a great idea but the weather man didnt agree and did his best to spoil it.

Samsung Run Dublin at night 10k on Sunday 29th. April 

There is a 10k road race starting at 8.30pm at Trinity College on Sunday night next. We have been asked by the Athletics Association to provide people to look after the Baggage Area and give out medals and water at the finish. Helpers need to meet at the Front Gate of Trinity College at 6.30pm. We should be finished by 10.45 p.m. at the latest and have time for a quick coffee or a  drink (I am buying! )  before the last bus home. Dont bring cars in unless you know where you can park as there will be 5,000 runners in the race. Only adults or 4th and 5th years should come in.

West Leinster Schools T&F Championships, Day 1

Day 1 of the West Leinster Schools T&F Championships were held on Tuesday last in ok conditions in Santry.  Pierre had a great win in the mile under 16 and Alex came 2nd in the high jump. Siobhan McGinley came 3rd in the senior 1500m and Olwyn came 5th. Results from day 2 later.

Juvenile League Round 2

On Saturday in Tallaght we had a group of athletes in action at League 2. There were some very impressive performances and it was great to see the confidence gained from competing in League 1. Sophie English, Ella MaeCromie, Ellen Byrne, Conor Murphy and Pierre Murchan were particularly impressive in their events.

National Intervarsity Championships

Also at the weekend we had 3 athletes in action at the National Intervarsity Championships in Athlone. On Friday Sinead Cronin had a good season opener in the 1500m finishing 6th in 5.06. Catherine Mc Manus ran a new personal best in  a slightly wind assisted 100m hurdles finishing 2nd to Jesse Barr and she also finished 2nd in the 100m to Steffi Creaner.  Steffi came 2nd in the 200m.  Catherine was lead off in the 4×100 m relay and had built up a huge lead only for the 2nd and 3rd runners to drop the baton and unfortunately then were out of the race. See link here for videos of races

This week the older gang are busy with West Leinster Schools and Senior leagues  and the little people have a free weekend from competition.
