Yesterday in Santry Pierre Murchan finished 2nd in the Intermediate boys 1500m at the All Ireland CBS track & field championships in Santry.  Unfortunately the club only became aware late on Tuesday that St Declans had not arranged to enter or bring the boys out to Santry and it was too late  to organise anything at that stage. A missed opportunity for for a nice bit of competition for the lads.

This weekend League 2 will take place in Tallaght starting at 12 noon on Saturday. This will be a shorter programme that last week but be prepared  for the cold anyway. All the younger athletes need to do these events as they are low key and enjoyable for them. Its a chance to try different events. On Saturday Mary and Hilary wont be there due to prior committments. Fiona, Jane, Joe, and Anne who know the ropes will be there. We will gather at the same place as last week. Bring 3 euro for your sticker.

Don’t forget training on Monday for the smallies in Santry at 7pm.

Hectic Day at the Spar Great Ireland Run

God Runs by Pierre Murchan and Keelin Gogarty
What a day our young athletes had at the Spar Great Ireland Run today in the Phoenix Park. Our star boy of the day was Pierre Murchan who had a great win in the Boys Junior Great Run. Our star girl performer was Keelin Gogarty who finished 2nd in the Mini Great Run. We had a huge gang running in both races and they all had a great day. Full results will be up on the website shortly.  Anyone who had pictures please e-mail to celticdch@hotmail.com

Thank You
A big thank you to all the parents and teenagers who worked so hard at the Baggage Area, Water Station, Goody bags and Finish Water areas and helped with the major clean -up after the race was over. Thanks also to the stewards who worked around the course and helped so much with the clean up. All your help is really appreciate. It was hard work but it beats selling tickets, packing bags or pub quizzes!  Anything we raise at this event is put back into our young athletes and as you can all see we have some very talented young people  who will need our support in the future.

Good Results by Club Athletes in first T&F event of the Outdoor Season

Juvenile Leagues 1st Round Tallaght
The Dublin Juvenile leagues got off to a very chilly start in Tallaght today. We had a very busy gang of athletes in action with many competing on the track for the first time. Impressive winners on the day were Alison Burke, Grainne Fitzgerald, Sophie English, Hazel English and Pierre Murchan.  Other fine performers were Aoife Corr, Alison Armstrong, Eric Duffy, James Scanlon, Emily Corcoran, Emily Murphy, Michael Hanley, Clare, Gillian and Conor Murphy, Killian Corcoran, Abbey and Alex Corr, Sarah Byrne.  Lots of cold happy faces and lots of experience gained.
Leevale Sports
Meanwhile down at Leevale sports in Cork Catherine Mc Manus was burning up the track in her first 100m sprint of 2012, winning in a fab new personal best of 11.74 knocking a huge chunk of her previous best of 11.99! This time ranks her 13th in the All Time Irish List of female 100m sprinters.

All Hands on Deck the Spar Great Ireland Run is Here

Sunday 15th April Great Ireland Run

Mini and junior runners are to meet at Marys car which will be at the tented area close to the Start/Finish area off the Main road of the park at 10am. Come prepared for a cold day.

For those running in the Junior Run on Sunday – if you entered late, the numbers can be collect in the Park on Sunday. If you entered on time and didn’t get your pack in the post we can sort it out on the day. There will be over a thousand runners in the junior race this year, of all standards so go out and enjoy it!

After the race the water station gang should go to their spot at the bottom of the Hills. It would be better to park at the Hole in the Wall or bring the bike as the exits  from the Park get very packed and it can take forever to get out. alternatively you could park at the Popes Cross carpark while the junior race is on and then bring the car down to the  water station and go out Islandbridge gate when the Park opens.

We will be needing lots of bodies at the Baggage area, Goody bags and Water Stations and for the cleanup afterwards. If you are not involved in the Junior Run, report to Mary at 11 o’clock at the Tented area on the Main Road of the Park. This is the only race that we help promote and have full responsibility for, and which is our only fundraiser for the year. We don’t sell tickets, pack bags or do collections. This is our main fund-raiser day so please get as many of your friends out as you can. We hope to have the majority of people gone by 2.30 to 3pm.  Thank you all very much.

On Monday night we have a booking for the track in Santry at 7pm. If you come out on Monday we will be concentrating on field events, block work  and keeping warm so if you are wrecked after Sunday we will be taking it easy! Bring your spikes if you have them and wrap up well.

Busy few days ahead for all of us!
